How Important is it to Teach Community Safety Seminars at the Elementary Level?

By any honest measure, essential.

In our April seminar, the children showed a level of awareness that was both encouraging and sobering. They grasped what it means to look out for one another. They recognized situations that felt right and those that raised concern. That kind of discernment does not happen by accident but rather when someone takes the time to guide it.

This age group is paying attention more than many realize. Through social media, films, and games, they are already encountering themes that blur the lines between safe and unsafe interactions. Without guidance, those messages can shape their understanding in ways that leave them vulnerable. With guidance, those same moments can become opportunities for clarity and strength.

What stood out most was their readiness. Their questions were thoughtful. Their responses were grounded. Their willingness to engage showed that they are not only capable of understanding safety concepts, but also eager to apply them in real life.

So, the question becomes less about whether these seminars matter, and more about whether we are willing to meet that need with action. Should these seminars be made available to more elementary students? Watch the second half of the clip and weigh in.

Seminar waivers obtained prior to filming.
